Advertising poster for Araks cigarettes produced by Tchamkerten & Co. The tobacco company was founded by the Armenian-born Tchamkerten family, who had fled the pogroms in the Ottoman Empire in the late 19th century. The Tchamkertens belonged to the group of five Armenian families that dominated the market of so-called “cigarettes Egyptiennes” during the early 20th century.
